possibly, but why? you'd have to rewire the whole thing..
more likely that the guy that assured you was not sure himself. |

Hi All
Am having trouble finding an ECU for my 4DED - EF 5.0L Auto. Are there any other ECUs that would be compatible?
Thanks
Geoff |

not strange at all. I've found many classed ecu's in wrong cars.
especially taxi's.
I don't think there's as many EL GLi's around compared to EF's.
I think this was a 'upgrade' to gain sales as was the revision of suspension and olympic editions. |

EL Fairmont, Auto, Tickford LPG (Dual Fuel)
6TEB
96DT-12A650-EB
10 / 07 / 06
Can I get a break-down on the following...
6 = EL
T = Tickford Gas / LPG
E = Fairmont?
B = Revision number?
The reason I ask is that my ECU is faulty, I currently have a 6DDB (EL Fairmont, Auto, no LPG) in there and an running the car on ULP.
What alternatives could I use if I can't find a exact match? I can get a 6TGD or a 6TGE relatively easily - but these are GLi models. What will I lose not having the 'Fairmont' ECU? Trip computer? Climate control? Speed sensitive wipers?
I was also offered (for a price) a 6TBB - Police Spec EL... will this work with my Tickford LPG and all the 'Fairmont' electronics?
Help required (it is a ford after all)
Cheers all, |

Can I get a break-down on the following...
6 = EL
T = Tickford Gas / LPG
E = Fairmont?
B = Revision number? |
Parts first used in the EL are prefixed 96DA (or 96DT for Tickford parts). The 2nd and 4th characters of the part no. prefix are the first 2 characters of the catch code. So the T means any Tickford item, for an ECU therefore it can mean LPG or XR. The E means a distinct model of ECU, which may not correspond to a model of car. In the AU for example, there is an ECU for Forte/Futura/Fairmont, another for the same cars with LPG, yet another for the same cars with police pack. In your case the E most likely denotes LPG/Dual-Fuel. The final character is, as you say, the revision level.
So if you use an ECU that's not 6TEB it will interfere with the LPG functionality. It might switch between petrol and LPG, but it definitely won't have the dual spark maps, which will hurt your performance and econmomy on LPG.
In the AU, stuff like | Quote: | | Trip computer? Climate control? Speed sensitive wipers? | is handled by the BEM (Body Electronics Module) which is separate to the PCM (ECU). I've NFI how it's done in E-series though, but I wouldn't expect any of this stuff to be in the PCM. |

sly - VERY informative... thanks!
I got a 6TGE (i think) and it runs the LPG... but idles low (about 600rpm). Petrol is fine, just LPG has this issue.
It locks-up the torque converter at 50km/h in 3rd, and 80km/h in 4th - so it might be from a ute and panel van.
My car is running fine on LPG, and pulling hard on both petrol and LPG.
perhaps not the right place for this post (not being entirely ECU Catch Code related) but sly deserves a '1 UP' for his post |

| get your original catch code, then talk to Jason (galapogos01) and he will be able to give you a chip with more than likely your original binary on it, so you can make any other ECU from an EL the same as your original ECU |
