...and I now seem to have a "squeaky wheel". The squeaking gets faster the faster i go. I haven't noticed any other changes (not pulling to one side, wheel doesn't seem to be out of alignment, no vibration or anything at high speed.) I tried looking under the car to see if anything looks noticeably bent, but both sides look pretty symmetrical. It also makes a slight "thudding" sound under light braking (which it never used to do.) Is there anything I should check, or is there any way I can tell if I've damaged something?

i think you might need a new brake rotor.
or your wheel has come loose. check your wheel nuts. |

| might just be clutching at straws, but the clunking may have something to do with the bar that goes forward off the lower control arm and mounts onto the chassis. don't know what it's called, but if the bolt on it works loose as it did on mine, you get all sorts of clunks and a slight pull to the side when you hit the brakes. |

| my bro's gf did the same thing in her el when she swerved over an island to avoid a stupid asian in an excel couple months back. turns out the stub axle got bent. pulled the back end out of a mates wrecked car, swapped them over and bang, good as new |

that 'bar' your talking about is the "tie rod". |

| um try radius rod,,the tie rod connects the steering arm to the steering knuckle. |

Used to happen a lot on earlier falcons with a 9in - Sounds a lot like a bent axle... means the brakes sort of drag on and off.
Wont happen on the front. Is the squeak on the back or front of the car? |

Pretty sure its coming from the back. It def feels like somethings bent, but I can't see anything that looks obviously damaged (not that i really know what i'm looking for though...) I'm thinking of just taking it in and getting it looked at, but i don't want to pay a billion dollars for a mechanic to do something i could probably figure out how to do on my own. If it is a bent axle how much $$ am i looking at for a replacement? |

Almost guarantee that its the rear axle. take it to a diff shop : They can tell you.
Shouldnt cost too much to fix : Remove the Caliper, remove the rear disc, undo the 4 nuts/bolts holding it all together, and remove. To replace, do the opposite.
Make sure you have the right axle to replace it : Right amount of splines on the axle, right length.

Anyone know??? I want to try and get it fixed by monday, so if it will fit I'll swap them over tomorrow. |

You should be able to work it out - by measuring the distance from the axle wheel plate to the diff centre on both diffs.
I thought the wagon was slightly different, but I can be wrong (often).
Just line them up together - if they are the same, they should work.
