just a few Qs if you don't mind.

i fitted one of your 1004-14 cams to my 5 speed xr6. the car has pacemaker comp extractors and 2.5 inch exhaust. after fitting the cam the car 'feels' stronger/faster. but a trip to the drag stip shows a drop in 1/4mile time of
0.3 sec.
seems a little strange that it should go slower.

also have you ever had problems with timming chain noise after fitting?
i'm pretty sure it's just my engine showing it's age.

We've had a special deal going for Fordmods members for quite some time. I will post a price listing on our Commercial Sponsor forum section soon.

How have you contacted us....I'm not aware of any outstanding queries apart from emails from yesterday, Wednesday 1st?

How much (approx) would it cost to get a mechanic to put a 1004 cam in an EL fairmont? Since I am not really engine savvy… icon_sad.gif
Oil change etc not a problem but as for pulling her apart icon_eek.gif

Thanks!

mako, most states have a recommended member/mechanic who will do it for you and it'd prob set u back about $50-100 to get someone to fit it.

The 1004 puts out more kilowatts than the standard cam. As you say, the car feels stronger/faster. Maybe it was a once off situation.

In respect to the noisy timing change. We don't as a rule get that sort of feedback once the cam has been fitted. We hear if the car is going well and certainly hear if it isn't and that's about all.

tensixty6, just wondering if you need to remove the hydrolic lash adjusters in order to fit the shims. And when you do this most likely you will find that the retainers/seals have come apart and will need to be replaced.

Yes, the HLA's need to be removed to get to the shims.

In most cases you will find the retainers are shot. Its always good to have a packet on hand ready for the install. They cost less then $15 from Coventry.

i put in new lash adjusters when i put the cam in.
the noise is only there between 1900rpm and 2300rpm.

i'm pretty sure it's just because every thing is old and worn.

building a new engine soon so i think i'll just put the XR6 cam back in and wait till the new one is done. who knows i might use a bigger cam in that one.

correct me if i'm wrong.
but i believe that with VCT the tricky bit is comming up with a profile that works in all of the cam timming positions.

But why if the mocks can do it , cant a reputable company that has been dialing out cams for nearly as long as cars were invented?? If you want a guinny pig then i'm all for it for the better of all vct's out there.

I thought Wade made JMM's cams?

Does the Wade Stage 2 cam differ depending on weather my car is automatic or manual, or does it not matter as there both the same?

Is Coventry like a Repco or Autobarn? I'll go to Repco tomorrow and see if they sell them, toherwise I guess I'll be paying rip off ford prices!
Do I need 6 or 12 of them?

There's no need to drain the oil out before doing it right as it's all sitting beflow the cam?

The situation with the VCT's is that you need to be able to provide a complete package, especially a modified ECM, because a cam alone won't work. We don't do chips so we stay out of it. Jim Mock Motorsport does provide the whole package and goes to a great deal of trouble testing and proving his products. I was of the view that he has an excellent reputation in the industry. I understand that most of the people that use his cams are very happy with them.

Cheers

Chris
