ok i got my diff changed in my car about 6 months ago and then got the centre reconditioned as there was a whining noise in it. also before i changed the diff (which was making all sorts of clunky and weird noises) there was a noise which was like a click or somethgn that would come out once your in gear and disengage the clutch.

now i thought this noise would go away with the new diff although it stayed doing it. i went back to the guy who reconditioned the diff and he showed me that the noise is comming from the bloody shaft! there is alot of movement in the shaft and when you put your foot on the clutch and change gears (mainly in first and reverse and when you take your foot of the clutch real quick) you hear like a clicking noise from the shaft. very annoying at low speeds. now is this the actual shaft itself.

Diff man said it has nothing to do with the diff. and he is an honest bloke.

if i change the shaft could that solve the problem? anything i couldt tighten??
is it true that ef xr6's came with a stronger tail shaft??
thanks guys!

i would check for worn or dry universal joints, thats basically all it can be or if there are cracks at the welds which is unlikely. double check that the rear flange bolts are tight (where driveshaft bolts to diff)

well when i changed the diff i actually bought a uni joint to fit it too although on inseption of the old uni joint it seemed fine, there was no play in it and it wasnt seized or anything, it moved right.. i should just change it anyway i think. anything else thats common? thanks for the replies guys.

Is the drive shaft 3" steel or 3.25" alloy?
