Your budget will deterine what models you can afford.
For starters look at entry level subs from brands like Alpine, Hertz, Treo, Boston, Focal.
In most cases a good single sub will out perform 2 cheap subs. |

If alpine are entry level subs have gotten really good over the last two days.
Entry level examples are sony, jbl, pioneer
medium level - alpine, eclipse and maybe fusion
high end is boston acoustics (not boston) |

Brand and model number please.
I say get a good single 12" sub. Dual voice coil preferably...I'd say get a DD (Digital Design). Good subs so I have heard...but very dear.

I think you may have misinterpreted what I was trying to get across.
I didn't mean the various brands I listed were entry level .... I meant have a look at entry level models from within those various brands.
I don't think you can accurately catogrize brands as entry/medium/high level .... it's the models within the brands that will determine if the are entry, medium or high end types.
As an example .... a high end JBL sub would wipe the floor with an entry level Boston Accoustics.
(Boston is the common abbreviation for Boston Accoustics)
With Alpine for example .... their entry level sub is the Type S with an RRP of $219 for the 12"
The high end Alpine sub is the Type X with an RRP of $699 for the 12"
Digital Design's are very good subs too and certainly worthy of a look .... again entry level is the DD-512 with an RRP of $249
Other entry level 12" subs
Treo Engineering - TSi 12.4 RRP $299
Boston - G112-4 RRP $269
Hertz - ES300.3 RRP $296
Focal - 30-1A RRP $259
Image Dynamics - ID12V3 RRP $349
These are all entry level subs .... each brand has got much higher quality, much more expensive subs in their line up.
It's up to your ears and budget to make a choice |

Totally agree with sierra.
As a suggestion though, i have 2 x 12" Alpine Type R's in my Missus's Laser, and they go off like a mad hatter, with great SQ. I picked them up for $275 each from a place in brisbane that had a pretty good deal going. These subs retail at about $350-399 i think?.
I'm sure you can find a similar deal in melbourne.
GL with it.
Andrew. |

yes i misinterpreted sorry for the misunderstanding and you are right. just for the record i have three year old jbl1000 subs and they are great for rock very punchy and SQ is alright as well.
I am in no way saying these are the best subs out but well worth the 100 you pay for them |
