What ECU would I need to make an EL Fairmont Ghia V8 have no speed limiting?
I am aware about the driveshaft limiting the speed of the car hence the speed limit put on non XR models.
But if your upgrading the driveshaft and dont want a limit on your cars top speed what ECU do you go for to remove it considering there are differences in luxuries between different models.
Would an EL XR8 ECU suit my Fairmont Ghia or will that cause some items not to work?
Cheers
P.S. Could you also recommend other ECUs or options for other model E series Falcons for others. |

| I think you may find that the auto EECs are all speed limited, even the XR ones (although I could be wrong). This is because the auto cooks itself extremely quickly above 180kph. If it is a manual, an EL XR8 manual EEC should be fine. But honestly how many times will you ever see more than 180kph, even on a track you will be going to get that high so is it worth the effort. |

Manual XRs dont have a speed limiter uglybob, my EF XR6 has seen past 200kph.
Also I've got a trans cooler on board so cooking the autobox not likely to happen.
Not much point working the engine then on my V8. I'll keep it stock then and just make it look good instead. |

| I've had my ED with Auto EL XR6 ECU up to 210 - no limiter to at least there. |

Depends what you call expensive..
I forget how much they went for, but fertree gully auto salvage here in melb had some i think - cant remember details.
Other than that youd have to chuck up a WANTED on most ford forum sites to see if someone has a ecu laying around, suprisingly there has been a few getting around in the past 12months from what ive seen.
Go figure. |

| daniel interesting to hear the FBT is unlimited. The AU TL50 LWB were at 185kmh aparantly so its interesting to hear of a lwb ford without a limiter. |

You could run onto troubles using an EL one as they have a different cooling fan setups. I had an EF XR8 auto one up for grabs, but someone is buying it this weekend. If that sale falls throughI'll let you know. |
