| What is the material that the engine shield on an EL is made out of? It's quite a rough feel on the fingertips but I haven't been able to figure out exactly what it is. |

Thing on top has 4.0 OHC on it and is (usually) black. |

No I mean the one sitting on top of my engine ( picture below ), the black piece. It feels kind of ceramic which I guess makes sense considering all the heat there but I would like to know specifically what its made from.

| Vic,I haven't had a good look at a ford one before, but most top engine covers are usually die cast aluminium painted. |

| This one is not metallic. It is quite a rough feel when you run your hand over it. |

It'lljust be plastic.
ceramic = too expensive
metal = not needed
plastic = cheap, high temp plastics available so suitable, rough moulded to confuse people into thinking it's something special. |

Well its in two parts, the front half is definetly plastic and bolts to the rear half which is not plastic. ( of this I'm reasonably sure )
So far I've seen these engine shields on the V8's only so perhaps if another member can confirm on their V8 what they think their shield is made of? |

i know the rear 1/2 is metal cos a m8 has his EB GT's cover off and you can see where the mounting tabs for the GT plaque have been welded on.....
i'm guessing cast alloy, it's too light fr steel and not heavy enough for plastic |

| Rear is not plastic. Anyone with a EL V8 might be able to provide an opinion from their own? |

| The BBQ plate, or rear section is made from cast steel, it has a rough non slip type paint. the front is plastic. Take the BBQ plate off and feel how heavy it is, its definately not alloy. |
