Get a UHF for sure....I've got an AM CB in my car and it's good but UHF is the way to go these days.
GME make some really decent stuff. |

Definitely UHF (that's what we use on FM cruises )
I have a UH-013. Very good unit. It's a UHF with built-in scanner, and has a remote-mount face.
UHF radios are available through Fordmods (though the shop's not up yet...). Once you've decided which unit you want, it would be worth it to PM Waggin and ask if you could possibly order one through him, while the shop's not up. |

| There nice and expensive, and two years ago we got ourselves a uniden uh-011. Tis a bit larger than most on the market as it is a bit old, but its not too bad. |

| the icom is a good unit, but unless you want to transmit on private channels (and have the relavent licences/authorisations to transmit on those frequencies) it's not worth it...... i looked at getting am ICOM, but i'm gonna be getting the uniden instead |

| We put a gme in our new farm ute the other day fuken nice unit too a lot better finished then the uniden uh013 which i have in the car. In the ute we stuck the unit on the wall behind the seat aerial on the cabrail and the face is just under the ash tray sorta thing. gme make a good aerial too like on our house we have a 6' maybe but longe aeral and the one on the ute which is about 12"picks up people when scanning that the one in the house don't. |

| Disco Frank wrote: | | whats the diff? | HUGE, Single Side Band, has upper and lower, so effectively you have 120 channels, this is a simplified explanation, when the conditiond are good, you bounce the radio waves off the atmosphere, and they rebound around the country/world. You mat not be able to talk to someone down the street on SSB, but thats what AM is for. But you can never talk to UHF , impossible. I use SSB for going bush here, where there is no repeaters, got one for sale if ya want, but if you only use it on cruises, get a UHF. |
