well, how much money do you want to spend and do you like challanges?,

you could just get a worked X flow for it, thats the simple option,

Converting it to V8 could be trouble since there was no XF V8 to do the transplant from (makes it hell to sort out the emissions gear)

or you could go a late model 6cyl/v8 from an e series car, but then you have a headache when it comes to the electronics.

have fun.

Dude your sixteen and its your first car and you dont want to spend much...... Ummm well forget about a V8 conversion or I6 with that much $$$$. You can easily make the x-flow six go alot better with about $4000.

Cam, Holley, Hi flow filters, performance igintion setup, 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust, Pacemaker extractors. For under $4000 you could get all of that done and you will most like gain a very good amount of power.

More than enough i should say! icon_smile.gif

Thats alrite, fortuntely for you i had an XF previously to my XR.

Well basically you get your performance Exhaust and headers (extractors) from any good exhaust store, Cam, ignition, filters and holley can all be purchased at most Car stores such as Repco and Sprint Auto parts (they can order it all in for you) then just get a mechanic to hook it all up for you.

Expect up to about 20rwkw gain from all of this, mabe more. Which on an XF will be alot better than standard.

Good luck

It's been posted in the 6 cyl, V8 and forced induction forum as well as here. It is annoying but I can sort of understand the reasoning.

Not everyone reads every forum so by posting it across several related forums increases your chances of getting a response as well as getting responses on the widest array of potential options. The *big* problem is that every additional repost takes additional space in the database. What would be cool would be if the forum software gave you the option to have a single copy in one forum along with "ghost" copies in other, related forums that link back to the original. That way you could ensure everyone you want to ask could see it without taking up too much additional space in the db. Unfortunately, it's probably unimplementable due to abuse concerns, how to handle bumping in one forum (you wouldn't want each ghost to bump if it were only bumped in one forum for example) etc...

is it efi or carby? auto or manual?
if it's auto, get a 5spd.
get the whole block rebuilt, get a worked head/cam, extractors/exhaust (possibly cat if it's post 1986).
all depends on what you want to spend, in a recent street machine there was a turbo kit for the 4.1L that is basically bolt-on and it was around $2000.

It was a supercharger kit from castlemain rod shop - using one of those toyota sc14 blowers, price was $1800 visit their website for more info

Or for even more power .. drop in a 1JZ-GTE (2.5L straight 6 twin turbo ... 206kw from factory) from a Toyota Soarer ... and convert it to single large turbo .... much more power ... and a much stronger motor (capable of 700hp on standard internals).

Seriously for the money hes planning to spend there is no point in enigne swapping. I mean you got to get all the emmisons right and it has to be certified and if it doesnt pass then he gets pulled over by the coppas. Then they see that its got a foreign engine in it, no engineers certificate then its bye bye first car. icon_confused.gif

I personally would just put some work into the carby six icon_razz.gif As its been said Exhaust, extractors, Cam, Holly, Upgrade all the ignition system, and mabe try to add CAI somehow (cold air induction).

You will get good power gains just from doing what is sated above icon_razz.gif

Your 16 and I dare say either no or little experiance at operating a motor vehicle so therefore I would recomend repair whatever is wrong with your car and spend the rest of the money on driver education,
In a few yers time you will end up getting a more powerful car and atleast thisway you will live long enough to enjoy it
