Hi Guys, I've just joined this group,I hope I can get a bit of help here.
I have a 96 Falcon Ventura S/Wagon, EF series. Now I hope this doesn't bore you, but I need to explain some history.
THe wagon is in great condition, but I developed a shimmy through the steering wheel at !00 to 110 K's an hour, not below this speed.
I had the discs skimmed, and worked great for about 1 month. decided to install brand new discs..great for about 6 weeks..so decided to install new set of 4 discs and pads, new tyres, balance etc.Good for 3 months.
Today, new set of front wheel bearings, switched discs to opposite sides.and had wheel allignment to make sure...went for test drive, still has shimmy at 100/110 but not at lower speeds.I'm 73 years old and running out of life and money !!!there must be an answer somewhere..I refuse to give up.Next move, Performance slotted discs and Ceramic pads...unless there is somebody out there who has solved this problem.
THanks Guys.

hi there, and welcome to fordmods!

id be asking the mechanic to check out the ball joints... my EL had the same problem at around that speed, and was very bad under braking, and was found to have very badly worn ball joints.

put new ball joints in it and the shaking was gone!

1) I think you have a Futura not a Ventura.

2) Why did you swap sides with the disc's? There is not need to rotate your discs like tyres and you will find that they bed in for a certain direction. If you want to swap sides have the discs machined first.

3) Does the shimmy occur when braking or just driving? If it occurs when braking you have disc issues and need machining. If it occurs when driving at those speeds I think you may have a wheel balance problem or wheel alignment issues.

yeah I would be leaning towards ball joints. As my wagon does the same thing at the same speed. I know the ball joints are screwed on it.
