Yes if theres a hissing sound from under the dash and you have to plant your foot to the floor on the brake pedal (with little or no stopping power) its a booster, same thing happened to me in my EF a while back.

You have to grab specific, i think EL will fit EF, but EA-ED boosters are a little different to EF. I tried a free EB bosoter i had but no success

EA-ED have 3 or 4 mounting bolts (cant remember) where as EF/EL only have 2 bolts

EA-ED boosters have a different input for the master cylinder, if i remember rightly the EF/EL input has sought of like a gear drive inside the booster where as the EA-EB doesnt, some weird boxcar thing.... :D

I even tried using the EB booster and master cylinder, but the EF/EL braking system has extra sensors with different plugs, they wont go into the EA-ED master, and also one of the brake line nuts wont fit.

All in all, just grab a model specific. I got one from the wreckers for $75

Unsure of differences between 6 and 8s, but if you can find one, grab an XR booster iam death.
They're noticably bigger, and feel an absolute s**t better through the pedal.
I just put one in mine, and along with DBA slotted rotors and some bendix ultimates, the brakes are ten fold better.
Oh, EF-EL are different as mrnasty said.
Not only are they plastic as opposed to metal, but they only have 2 mounting bolts as opposed to the boxcars 4 ;)

I know my old one had a leak, but it wasn't a 'whoosh', more a slight hiss, and it actually lost pedal effort... you'd have to 'pump' the brake sometimes to keep it stopping...

Either way, if you can get an XR booster, the difference in feel is worth the effort, even if your existing one isn't f**k.

Hey Jared you wouldnt happen to know if the EF/EL XR series copped a better booster over the standard GLi units would you?

Might have to invest in one if they did.

Wouldn't have a clue dude.
I don't think so off the top of my head.
PM Arm79, Adrian would know for sure if they did.

I have sold one on ebay for $45 from my XR6 (R.I.P.)

May have an EL ghia coming this week, will put it on hold if you like. Oh, its a six cylinder ghia, not an eight.
