but i can see how it would blow out in price quickly. I rung pro bag today to see what they say, turns out that it is a "pain in the a***" so to speak! Because the shocker of the E series falcons runs inside the spring it makes it very hard to do. The fella said what they do is relocate the shockers by welding in some brackets elswhere, pull out the springs and fit in the bags. I could see that that Idea was quickly going to rocket in price   .But what I was also wondering, dose the setup on the fairlanes lower? Would anyone have a pic of it? Maybe using a set of them with ultra low springs might do the trick? Ditch the control unit and use a compressor and tank from probag and yeah? You mean the Self Levelling Suspensions? I guess you could try and use a compressor with a SLS system and shorter springs...if you have trouble going over speed humps or drive ways, just switch it on and the a** raises...though it's only the rear end. Air bags would be better though, but the SLS wouldn't be too bad of a substitute. phong =P~

What is the SLS? are they shocks or those poly things that go in the spring?

What is the SLS? are they shocks or those poly things that go in the spring? I remember my old EA had it but my dad got rid of it when he changed the shocks and springs. I am not entirely sure how the thing works but when I was mucking around with my sound system I found 2 tubes that sat on top of the shock towers...I am guessing that's where the compressed entered the shocks and raised the car if the a** was hanging low due to heavy load. Compressor was found at the front right behind the quater panel. So I think the SLS system used shocks to raise the car rather then spring? which is why they failed a lot? phong =P~

OK
Rang probag again today for a price, problem is you need to know wheel sizes and max drop, ect ect to get a acurate price. But To have brackets made and welded on to the car its $350 - $400 For a kit to do all four Wheels is $2450 When you think about it, its not that bad of a price!, altho I would probably get them to weld the brackets on then I would install it myself

Using low or ultra-low or ultra-ultra-low springs then pumping up air-shocks to raise should work, but don't overstress them. Air shocks have an external airbag fitted to the shock, the inside of the shock is stock. SLS probably has a lever mechanism fitted to the rear axle telling it the height, which will make it raise it to a standard height, so if you want to normally run it at a lowered height you would need to adjust the lever.

Actually, just thought about what the extra costs could involve. Getting the whole lot engineered would be expensive. I am not sure of this, but dont you have to get any suspension components crack tested (x rayed) before you are fine to use them? that would get expensive quickly |

most eseries airbag installs that i've seen have cost in excess of $4k.
a lot to pay for suspension. i'm looking at putting airbags in the back of my EA Wagon, i've been quoted just over $1k to do the rear. but i don't have the complications of having to move the shock, and they can be used as a 'load assist' kit... just have the car nice and looooow to start with. the SLS in the fairlanes goes pretty low when the pressure is let right out of the shocks, how ever i beleive running very low pressure in those shocks damages them. It also appears that the gas riser shocks are harder to come by these days, rumour is that monroe stopped making them so there may be a limited source

I love airbags for cruise/showy type cars, but only quality kits. Cheap setups suck for ride quality, and reliability.
I have had a few bagged cars, and am in the midst of converting my current project 1979 P6 LTD to full bag setup. They can be made to go into any car. You should do it, quality bags ride real nice, and you have complete adjustability. Andrew.

Time to kick this up again
I found this place in Queensland called Burnin customs and they do a bag that fits over the original strut in place of the spring. But what I'm not sure of is what the E-series suspension is called, Is it McPherson strut? Here is a pic of the bags 
Do they look like they will fit on the back?

mate if your going to just do the back youmight as well just get pump up shocks hey do the same thing as air bags exept you pup it and deflaite it just like a tyre my mate has it in his ceica he got it from rare spares for 200
also it is posible in e series coz i no some of the early ltds/fairlanes came out with air bag suspesion

I have air shocks in the back of the EB, they work really good. You can run ultra ultra lows and just pump them up to what ever height you want. minimum is 15psi max is 180psi, at 100psi it gives me plenty of room for my 12x30x15 m/t slicks.
