hey guys, i've just noticed the last few weeks that when i gear down in my ute i get this real annoying whine noise, not sure exactly where from but think it could be the diff (have noticed a lil oil leaking out) is there anything else it could be?

Is it an auto or a manual? If it is a manual it is probably the gearbox bearing associated with third gear.

ye its a manual. if its associated with 3rd gear would it still do it in other gears?

No punctured, a gearbox with a whine in a gear will usually just make the noise in that gear. Diff whine will usually be greater under acceleration. Does it still whine when you back off?

its only when i gear down, like if im doing 60 in 4th, go down to 3rd it whines, then second etc and its more noticalbe when i have to break quick and shift down when the revs are higher
