I'm assuming it's a straight bolt up, but are the loom connections on the box the same?
Also, the AU boxes have different solenoids, do they still operate on the same current, or will I need do a shiftkit like resistor mod?
Obviously I won't have adaptive shift using the ED EECIV, but apart from that it will be able to control the shiftpoints still correct?
I've started to get the feeling my box is about to die...
After 300,000km's it's not very surprising.

Not sure about the electrical connectors being the same but I have an AU valve body in my trans and it works fine, shiftpoints etc. Au's don't really require a shiftkit because their S5 solenoid is adjustable. Using the adjustable S5 solenoid I find the general shift fell is far better than using the electronic shift kit.

only the EL GT auto, AU XRs had the adaptive shift.

the box is basically the same the spedo sensor should bolt in, and the box should bolt up the only thing i would be worried about is the torque convertor, and the wiring plugs may be different

Would the torque converter be different?
In what way frank?
To find out if the plugs are the same I might have to go looking in the local supermarket for an auto AU.
Just crawl under someones car, have a squiz...
edit:supermarket carpark..
my local supermarket don't have AU's on the shelves

You have to change the bell housing for sure and I think use the ED torque convertor.

You will need the AU wiring harness as the plug pin position changed at the gearbox.

All this is based on what I have been told and partly researched myself.

Cheers guys, I'll do a bit of research into pricing.
Seeing as I'm thinking of a new motor, I might get a motor and gearbox together...
It's just a question of whether to run the AU box with an E-Series engine, to d**k around getting the AU engine in and do the AU box with it, or to stick with E-Series engine and box...
Any opinions on those choices?

I like the Au box into ED idea. With the wiring loom, could we just get pin outs and cut and join? And what the dif with the torque convertors?

Whats an AU auto worth used?

do the whole AU engine and box into ED

minor K frame mods needed

and the box will bolt straight in :)
also the AU engine has a much stronger bottom end

Ha ha CHEF, have you jumped on this bandwagon too?
Our auto's must be twins or something, both starting to die around the same time... :P
I'll fire off a PM to nick and get a rough price on an AU gearbox.
I think JOSE had a thread on putting the AU motor into his ED, it involves some grinding of the timing chain cover.
Sounds fun :D
Is it worth going to the full AU Coilpack setup, and using the EECV?
Anyone on here done an AU into ED conversion, and hooked up the EECV?
After typing that out I'm leaning towards an E-Series block now :P
So, Dellboy, if I use the E-Series bellhousing and torque convertor, should all be sweet?
And then, hopefully, like CHEF said can just cut E-Series auto loom, and match the pinouts to AU plugs.

the timing cover gasket grinding was only needed if you wanna keep the EA-ED type acessories, if your going to change over to the full serpentine setup as well, it wont be neccesary.

You either have to modify your K frame (the bit of RHS) or grind the fins off the front of the AU sump.

If your going to keep the serp setup and BBM thare are a few more things that need to be changed (accel cable, injectors, looms modified)
