Hey guys and girls,
We are having a bit of a problem with my dad's AU Falcon daily driver's gearbox. It's nothing to major, it still drives fine but it's just a bit annoying. I am the black sheep in my family, the only one having anything to do with cars, but I am still no mechanic. Now to the problem: When ever you shift from any gear into reverse, it takes quite a while for it to actually shift into gear, by which stage my dad is revving the engine and swearing at the car whilst trying to get it moving. It does eventually get into gear, so it's nothing critical but it's just a bit annoying. The car is dead stock so theres no massive strain on the gearbox.
Anyone have an idea on what's wrong??
Thanks a lot :D

Sweet thankyou. I'll pass that on to dad. Thinking about it now I don't think it has been serviced in a while :P

Bands might need adjusting

Might as well get it service and a flush usualy about the 200 mark for full flush and new filter and oil put in

mine got worse and worse very quickly

starting hunting around for another AU box, or for peace of mind fork out the $1700-$2000 for the rebuild

Ours has actually been doing it for a while, but it doesn't sound as drastic as what yours does in the forum. Think we'll probably just get a service and hope it doesn't turn out like yours...

yeah, was actually the gearbox in my old EF

it cost me $1500 for a rebuild, and $250 fitting/oil

after the rebuild it was great to drive, espcially with a high stall :)

AU's don't have adjustable bands......haven't done since the EF.....ED was the last one's with adjustable bands.

Is it leaking oil? It may just be low. Common to see oil leak out the extension house oil seal. Check the extension house bush whilst your at it.
