Does anyone know if the thicker front rotors and 2-pot calipers from a series 2 or 3 AU 6 can be fitted to a series 1? The brakes in my wife's series 3 leave mine for dead!

yes can be done
need new uprights calipers,rotors and pads and sway bar ferntree gully do a kit for about $1200 
1 thing i need to do to my xr6 short term slotted rotors and decent pads!

done this to my au 1. very happy with the result, especially at high speed, there is a big difference in braking perfermance

Yeah. I found out a while ago that the std brakes are surprisingly poor at (ahem) "typical overtaking speeds"...

A bit more than I wanted to do. I was hoping it was as simple as rotors calipers and pads from a wrecker. I'll probably see Hightek about some Series 1 DBA4000 rotors and Ultimate pads next time I have to change pads (which probably won't be long!). Hopefully that'll be enough to keep the engineer happy when I get the turbo...
