The AU's run the crossmember about an inch further back, and they wont line up with the E series chassis without a custom cross member. Steer clear of the AU stuff unless you have an AU. We learnt this the hard way when fitting an EF T5 to an AU, it was ugly buy has since been rectified.

EL Tailshaft and AU are the same thats about all I know, did notice when changing the flywheel on my sons EL that there is 2 different mounting positions for the crossmember one Auto other Manual???

isnt there a different in the bell housing too?? or is that just in manuals

ef will bolt straight in,,i have an el transmission in my ea,,it bolted straight in and every thing plugged right up

Did you try using an ea manual cross member, they are a bit different offset to the ef one, might be the same story as the au one.
I used the ef crossmember from the auto on the ea manual t5. the manual wagon one was different.

i thought the AU auto boxes bolted straight into the E series (minus 2 bottom bolts that didnt line up in the bellhousing)

Well if the extention housing is different, why not change the bugger?

They certainly aren't that difficult to do!

rear extension looks the same to me apart from the cross member
