My car slipped in the wet and hit a curb, giving a pretty hard knock... now for some reason i have no 4th gear (auto gearbox) and it doesnt change down gears automatically... nor does it change up automatically... if i manually shift through the gears its fine, but it wont change out of 3rd when its in DRIVE. also because i have no 4th gear it makes driving down the freeway quite fuel consuming @ 3000rpm... im wandering if this is just a simple case of changing the solenoid or something or if its more severe...

main question: will i have to get a new auto box?

cheers...

i would say so, mines missing 2nd and its not worth repairing it.

i think you should start looking for a reco trans, or better still, time to do the 5speed conversion.

it might be worth getting a trans place to have a look. it might be an easy fix. if not, there are plenty of second hand boxes around. thats what i did on my old ef. It cost me 700 fitted, no more problems.

The box i had fitted to my EF for $700 was secondhand, from Walliston Wreckers, not recon. i was happy with it though and didn't have any problems.
