were the fmx transmissions better

is it a C4 or C10, there isnt much diffence anyways, i had a C4 rebuilt about 2 years ago. i phoned around for a stage 1 rebuild and the price varied from $400-$600 depending on what type of bands and clutches you wanted.

its basically the same as a 51, just has a smaller sungear in it
here in aus they generally cost about 500 to rebuild depends on where you go though

For the extra $100 i'd get them to pull it out. Its a pig of a job to do yourself unless you've got access to a hoist.

all you need is a trolley jack to sit it on or you maybe able to hire the correct transmission jack from some hire place. did mine on my own, the only thing you gotta watch for is the torque converter sliding off when removing as its full of fluid.

C4's were used in XD and earlier 302's (not sure about XE's) as well as some police/taxi 6 cylinder falcons
C10's were a beefed up C4 for 351's
FMX's were a bigass cast iron case auto from big block and 351 powered cars
XF's had Borg-Warner 35 and 40 series auto's, 35's behind carby engined models, the EFI's got the 40
