the solenoid you can shange yourself, the bands you cannot. I just had a box built and pickied it up yesterday, BUT for a 6 banger falcon, the boxes were about $900 exchange, some times its worth finding a known good box and dropping that in instead. gotta justify the expence of a box when secondhand ones are dirt cheap.

With the solenoid, I would still pay a transmission guy to do it. I hate all things to do with auto gearboxes!

Okay, I'll bite.
How on earth does an auto transmission 'cook' the oil?
I can understand it if towing a heavy caravan up a steep hill in 40 degree heat, but on a trip to Nowra?
Was the oil crap to begin with? Poor auto service history? Design fault?

No towing i believe it was just dirty oil from previous owner and it sumhow got air into it when it leaked but yeah it was a frothy brown

So is it worth getting the s5 replaced, and can i test it now to see if its faulty without dismanteling the car

sounds like an s5. I have the same problem in my box and the previous box i had. Apparently if they get too hot the s5 dies creating harsh shifts and slipping. A good tell tale sign is if the box is fine when cold and misbehaves when at operating temp. You are looking at $400-$500 for a mechanic to replace the s5. If you leave it too long it will deteriorate and damage other driveline parts. My last one was average when i bought the car and near un-driveable within a year.

This auto was a bit noisy in the planetry's.....it's bushing material.

Have you checked the slop in the slip yoke bush in the back of the tranny.????
