Hi All.

I have an AU3 XR8 auto.......This afternoon I took off out of the carpark slowly and it felt really sluggish....Like it was taking off in 3rd gear.....It made a "thud" noise and it has been noisy since...Sounded like a broken diff.....It's worse when you hold it in 2nd or 3rd as you slow down....

I jacked the rear up when I got home. When I spin the wheels there is a noise coming from the auto box....It's much worse when I turn the wheels in reverse.....

It sounds terminal. How much to change the box with a reco unit????

How much approximately to change over to a 5spd??

I'm in Liverpool(Sydney)...Any recommendations for a transmission shop??

A manual conversion kit with all the parts to suit a V8 AU will be around the 2k mark unless you get very lucky. They are as rare as rocking horse s**t (cannot use any E series box, nor can you use 6cyl AU box).

Unless your super-keen on a manual box, your probably better off just finding a 2nd hand Auto box. Anything from EB1 to AU3 will suit. Just make sure it is a V8 box as the I6 ones wont fit up. Expect to pay about $4-500. I saw one in the for sale section the other week. AU1 XR8 Auto box w/ 110,000km on it. He wanted $550.
