Hello all Ford Geniuses out there
 I had a brake line replaced on my back right brake a little while ago and soon after i realized my hand brake isn't doing anything and when i pull the handbrake it makes a tinging sound. Also when i go over a speed bump or bump in the road it almost makes the same sound. Does anybody have any idea what this might be? Thanks for any help guys! Jakob

hey man i have almost the same thing. ive tryed adjusting the handbreak and now it works but wont fully hold the car. its soo damn annoying.

And its still making the noise  do you get the same noise when you go over a bump. Its kinda embarrassing sounds like im driving a tray ute... LOL

yea still makes a crappy noise. doesnt do anythin different over bumps tho.
thers like a little adjusting bracket about two feet infront of the diff.. preety much directly above the exhaust. a really annoying spot for it too.

IIRC I've posted the handbrake adjustment process on here before. Have a search for it.
But yeah, the B series handbrakes keep slacking off/stretching gotta constantly adjust them. I've personally never done it, it gets done whenever the diff needs to come out, which considering how quickly I go through diff bushes is frequent enough.

That's just the cable adjustment, if you wanna adjust the actual brake shoes inside the drum there's a toothed wheel behind a rubber grommet on the front of the disc...... From experience they are a C**t to adjust as alot of them seize and the hole for adjustment is offset making it easy to tighten but almost impossible to back off unless you bend a screw driver and use that with a hammer

Anybody checked that the actual cables not popped off, as when my ef cable was loose it dropped off the actual lever resulting in similar symptoms.

anybody know if its possible to just put a differnt handbrake set up into a b series ??

Anything is possible with enough money. But why. The handbrake works fine when adjusted properly and not abused.
If you want to go around doing full sick handbrakies / drift invest in a hydraulic handbrake.

haha nah no dardy driftin for me. just dont wanna have to adjust it all the time. i spose after a while ill get practiced at it and be able to do it in my sleep

Well i have forgotten the amount of times I tried to adjust it to the correct specifications & I have had it adjusted by Ford twice as well, but after about 20-30 uses it always disappeared to nothing again.
So I eventually fixed mine by not trying to get it to work on 4 clicks. I believe that this 4 click adjustment is the main problem with the design (especially when the cable Ford has used is soft), because at 4 clicks there is still a lot further the handle can be pulled up & if you accidentally go 5-6 clicks, then next time you apply the brake will need to go 6-7 & so on, & eventually it just goes back to nothing again. So I totally ditched the 4 clicks idea & I adjusted everything to work just before the handbrake lever is fully applied to its stop. So if I pull it on to far it it now reaches its limit without stretching the cable & Bingo it works perfectly. I have never had to adjust the handbrake again since ( almost 2 years now). No sticking , no shh shh noise, & no burning brake shoe smell ever since. I guess you could get a high tensile strength cable made up because the standard one stretches too easily. |
