Seriously The BA Durability testing was a bit of a laugh
They have been plagued by problems
Once you get kms on them they turn to s**t!

Anyways is if was to ever purchase a B series it would be the BF II. The same went with the E series, the EA was crap and they got it right on the EF II and EL.

thats a pretty broad and silly thing to say, there ain't many on here with the allmighty ef and el  that have not or are now experiencing the same problems the ea's had. :?

they were all based on the same block the only real difference being the engine management , broard band manifold and thermo fans and coil packs on the ef which can be as problematic as the distributor system.

as for the rest it was mainly cosmetic upgrades which on there own do not make a better car.

the seats in my ea are more comfortable than the seats in my bro inlaws ef.

I don't think its broad and silly at all.
I think its broad and silly to think a later series car isn't going to be more refined then the ones before it!
And you've oversimplified the differences.
Those changes you mentioned made more power, not to mention the differences in suspension pickup points, and safety.
EAs lacked side impact protection let alone the lack of airbags.

more power does not mean a better vehicle, just means they hit things faster, air bags are neither here nor there as they don't always do there job.

side impact bars are useless when your hit at 100 kph by a b double truck or 4wd urban tank.

Trust me,I've been in the rural fire service for 20 years and have seen ef's and el's come out the other side of a accident just as wrecked as an ea,with out the air bags deployed and body bits still stuck in the bits of the car.

how many ef and el owners on here have replaced head gaskets, transmissions, diffs ,brake light switches, had oil leaks from the sump, timing cover etc, all the very same problems the ea's have had.

so they are only marginally better.

and to say that a later series model is better is very naive, just look at holdens, nothing else needs to be said.

Okay... so because better side impact protection won't save you from a hit by a b-double, its useless?
And because airbags won't save you from a headon with a combined impact speed of 200km/h, they are useless?
You're either fishing, joking, or smoking crack.

Is that meant to shock me?
So does my old man, I'll wager hes been doing it for longer then you.
He's also smart enough to realise just because a safety device doesn't protect you from the absolute worst case scenario, it doesn't make it useless.

it don't bother me if your old mans been doing anything longer than me,i don't think a bit of steel bar or a cloth pillow makes a vehicle Superior to any other vehicle.

when i see a wreck where the air bags were not deployed and the occupants are in hospital or a body bag i see something that hasn't done what it was designed to do,which in turn does not make them better vehicles.

no vehicle that people can still die or be maimed in is better than any other.

and for the record my ea has side impact bars in the doors and i don't think it is Superior to anything except a push bike.

Its a bit early in the week to be smoking the crack piper naughtyfalcon

Its fact airbags save lives - Why would they be standard on every car

They may not save you in a high speed accident but they will prevent injury in slow speed.

Man all i said that the series 1 of any car has the most problems and i would buy the later series if anything. The improvments include safety, economy, comfort and cosmetic changed to name a few. The EA to current had changes such as 3.9ltr I6 to 4ltr I6, no ABS to ABS as standard, 3 speed auto to 6 speed, no Air Bag to Airbags all around, Live axle to IRS and the list goes on. In the end things may not last as long but the cars are safer, more economical and driver comfort is alot better than 18 years ago.

ok, i think i'm gonna drop it off at bluepower and get the standard dif replaced, he reckons by the sounds of it, I've smashed the crown wheel and everything. But as far as i'm concerned, this car will be history. It annoys me that they use 2 pinion diffs, hollow aluminium shafts, s**t brake discs etc... f**k cheap bastards, the more you find out, the more you realise how they stooge people to save money. I'll check out the BF's nicko but I think they might be a bit dear at the moment
