I wouldn't get another stock diff, i would get one built. If your gonna do burnouts and thrash it, you want somthing tuff that can handle that stuff

Broken diff? I'd say DON'T DO BURNOUTS! These are family cars, not racing cars. I'm not surprised that the diff died- no car is designed to do burnouts.

My EF Ghia has 347,000km on the LSD behind a 5 litre and it's still quiet. I've always used a quality synthetic oil and driven it respectfully. Your car will treat you just as well as you treat it. Simple.

Mike

Doesn't matter, e-series have been alot more reliable. Fair enough they're family cars but ford have scimped out on quality. I mean for the money i've spent on my BA, I could have bought a gts-t but I like the 4.0L I6 and think its a good package. Had they not been cheap in a few areas, it would be great. Those barra182 engines are fantastic. But the rest of the car lets it down.

I think it's pretty hit and miss with ford stuff these days, a mate of mine works at ford and he's got a ba II xr6t ute with 410rwkw and all stock running gear and he loves the thing and hasn't had a problem with it, the only prob he had was piston number 6 rolling along the freeway (his fault of course)

I think it must have something to do with the way its driven and weather the car itself was assembled properly...

my cousin did this, but it was his gearbox... it grenaded.. but he flogs the piss out of the poor thing... its not been that bad a car, 80,000km LOL... he says he wishes he didnt sell the EF.. Image

I agree Smiley. Im really dissapointed with my BA. I wish i didnt sell the EA. Woulda saved heaps of cash.
Not happy with the quality of the interior, couple of crappy plastic things have snapped with just normal pressure, Pain in the a**. Ah well..
Ill hang onto it for a couple of years and go from there.

In that shot, doesn't that slightly exceed the towing capacity of the 'E' series..

phht, the ef, 366000km original engine, diff gearbox is from an ea with the same mileage original interior seats etc. the interior is not falling apart, its built well and was made to last, ba's are just grunty mondeos, built cheaply and to stay together within the warranty period.

centre console flap retainers break, seatbelt clips snap, drivers/passengers seats break underneath, cd player stackers f**k up, the front rotors warp very easily, the gearboxes dont get me started on those. diffs and their clunks/whirring/noise/general weakness/ tailshaft play/

steering rack shudder, "nothing wrong with that"

steering wheels start to deteriorate very quickly as the plastic mustn't be very uv stabilised. (Remember EL's started doing that)

they are a great design that was poorly executed.

this is what happens when accountants run a company...
how can they make money if the cars they make last for twenty years? who's gonna buy a new one?

handbrakes that stuff up quick, but 380s, commodores and falcons all share that s**t designed handbrake.
