I took my car in to ford for them to replace a faulty front wheel hub, which they did and that seems ok - but when I got home driving in the driveway I got this shudder in the steering and what sounded like a rubbing noise. It was fine all the way home - just when I was doing less than 5km/h into the driveway. I let it sit for a good while in the garage and it still did it when i started it back up. Can anybody give me any advice for this?

Ring the workshop and talk to them the bearing may not adjusted properly

Will do. I will see if it does it in the morning, and if it does it will be straight back there.

I drove about 90km after they replaced the bearing, with no noises, no steering problems or anything - just when I got home. I will call them in the morning

this is a common problem with BA's, particularly the earlier ones. I'm guessing they may have done a quick check over your car, and checked the ps fluid. The power steering system is pressurised, and goes into negative pressure when you take the cap off, causing cavitation. This explains the shudder. It will go away after a week of driving. There is a fix if you can't wait, but must be done when the engine is cold. I'll get the instructions for you and post it up if you want.

OK got a mate who works for ford, you want to presurise all lines and get rid of air, simple thing they do is ...

put your foot flat to floor, now turn the ignition, the car will turn over but wont start, just let it turn over a number of times, say count to 5 or 10 if you want, and you're done. give that a shot.

Yeah sounds like power steering shudder - common prob when they fill the pump

The fix was to replace the high pressure line which actually was a TSB for all ford workshops if its complained about. but it never really worked anyway!
