About 6 months ago, my wife hit a curb at speed in our BA fairmont. the car still tracks fine, didn't pull to one side or the other and the tyres don't seem to be wearing badly.
2 weeks ago a knocking noise started up. mechanic couldn't find a problem but didn't have much time to look into it as it was thursday before easter. I just had a quick look, and the first thing i noticed is this: I'm assuming that is not normal? knocking could easily be caused by the spring hitting body of shock absorber. what other damage is likely?

i think the strut looks broken, u may need a new one.
in the engine bay does the top centre bolt of the strut move whilst u have it jacked up |

Agree with the bent strut - you'd have to strip it down to thoroughly check everything.
If you work the piston, you'll probably find it binding possibly. The lower control arm might be bent too - seems logical if the strut is bent. I doubt there is anything wrong with the spring - if it sits straight when not compressed.

definatly looks like a bent strut. fix this problem and then send the missus to a driver training school. curbs don't just jump out in front of you
