Please put my mind at ease.

I took off hard in my el fairmont ghia and didn't upshift into 2nd quick enough. The thing hit 6000rpm. The car is in A1 condition but i'm worried i might have damaged something.

Are the engine and gearbox strong enough to handle this terrible, terrible abuse??

relax man, it has a limiter to prevent it from going any higher, for short amounts of time, high rpm is fairly harmless on a healthy engine. If it puts yous mind at rest, my car sees 6,000 2-3 times a week and the engine is good as new.

Unless there is any reason to suspect it, don't think of it again.

...and leave it in 'D'...you have lost most torque by the time you hit 6000rpm anyway

im not being a smart a** but the ef/el series are rev limited to 5700 rpm
i gues it could reach 6000 in neutral bouncing on the limiter but not under load lol

momentum will carry the rev limiter past the 57 limiter, or if your my mates ef with a cam and headwork - STD computer - you'll go off the tacho.

Might be the tranny slipping into the next gear, mine did it when my tranny was stuffing up and it was changing at like 5900ish, got a new AU S5 solinoid and it changes at about 5400 now and thats WOT.

Both our cars are manuals, but it could have happened to Sharpyelghia's fairmont.
