so im getting a bit of a burnt rubber smell first picked up on it one night when i got home and dad asked me if i had been out cuttin up

as far as i can gather its not the tyres im not losing traction or anything.

so i think it may be my brakes? its usually after a bit of hard braking

Have you checked the inside of your tyres to see if something is rubbing?

If it's just a "hot" smell, it could be a seized brake caliper. In that case, you should hear a tick, tick, tick sound from one caliper as it cools. Spraying it with water will tell you quickly too

Mate, check your belts and pulleys. I had the same thing and could not work it out until one afternoon travelling down the highway I looked into the rear mirror and saw smoke. Pulled over and found that the idler tensioner pulley had seized and screwed the belt. With the crappy standard cluster that was in the car, did not see any alternator light come on. Spoke to a few guys who have since had the same problem. You don't know it is getting worn until it seizes. Loosen the belt and turn the pulleys by hand and see if they are free running. Good luck.

So I'm quessing that the idler pulley was the problem??
There's 2 idler pulleys. Which one was it? The top 1 or tensioner 1?

It gets replaced with the underdrive kit anyway if it's the one next to the tensioner!!
