Hey everyone, I got some bendix ultra premium pads from Supercheap today and went to install them just before, but I can't get the calipers off.

I've removed both of the bolts but the pads get stuck on the lip of the rotor, it's probably 1.5mm high on each side of the rotor, so 3mm all up and the pads are getting stuck on it.

Any ideas on how to get around this? I've put it back together for now because I need the car. I'll try again tomorrow.

Cheers!

I just jam a screw driver in between the caliper and disc. NOTE: NOT THE DISC AND PADS! So basically where the caliper wraps around the disc when you look at the disc edge on. There is a gap between the disc circumference and the inside of the caliper. If that doesn't make any sense...I'll try and find a diagram.

It does make sense mate, thanks! I was trying to give that a go but my garage has no light, could barely see what I was doing, lol.

On a side note, how long do these pads have left? They have recently started to squeal sometimes which is why I bought the bendix pads today. After I took the wheel off and had a look a realised they had a fair bit of meat. I'd still like to put the ultra premiums on, but if these ones have a while left I might just wear them out a bit more.

There is plenty of meat left on those pads! In saying that, you have to look at the pad on the other side too, just to make sure they are wearing out evenly and not just the inside one (which is doubtful).

That's what I thought, too. They're nearly as thick as the bendix pads.

Is there a reason they may be squealing and a way to stop them?

Ageed as above, may need to depreasure the brake pistons via quick bleed, making sure no air is sucked back into the line

Are the slider shims still in place?
Do the caliper slides move freely?
Are the wheel bearings correctly adjusted?
When was the last time you changed the brake fluid?

Squealing is caused by the pads vibrating. You can get a purpose-made adhesive that bonds the back of the pad onto the piston and upright (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... escription). I use a thin layer of copper grease on the back of the pad - only where it contacts - and that works well.

One of the retaining clips on the back of the outside bad has s**t itself, could this be the cause of the squeak? Is there any way to fix this?

You could stop the noise by throwing the bendix junk in the bin and using a decent pad from QFM.

look in similar nic to my brakes, the rotors are glazed and I was told this causes squeeking/creaking so just get the rotors machined. Also the pads need sanding or roughing up or something as they'll also be glazed (and will just reglaze your freshly machined rotors), cheap pads will also glaze a rotor after only a couple of hard braking attempts so if they're crap new ones but be the go. Also grab a can of anti squeal, maybe get some brake cleaner too even brake dust can cause squeaking.

Not really related to the squealing issue - but something Ive struck on both my ED and now the EF when I looked at the brakes was corrosion on the slides (the slides are tubular - the bolts go thru the centres of the slides) - causing the caliper to not "float" properly. Symptom of this is uneven pad wear between inner and outer pads - have seen outer pads almost like new but inner ones nearly into the metal backplate.

The little booties on the slides get split - which allows water in and causes corrosion. I'm pretty sure you can buy new bolt/slide/bootie sets for them but don't quote me on that.
