I'm wondering if i can run a 6cyl trans with my bell housing off my 95LE trans??
Looks like the gear ratios are the same but will it handle a 302??

I asked this same question when I needed to do a box swap with my 5ltr - as far as I was told the 6 + 8 cylinder autos are exactly the same EXCEPT for the input shaft and the bell housing. Same strength ect. So no it won't fit as I've been told the input shaft is a right pain in the a** to swap over - your best bet, although it can be difficult, is to keep searching around for a v8 btr - more looking and ringing around, perhaps even a little more expensive but saves a whole bunch of time and cursing trying to make the 6cyl btr adapt to the 5ltr.

what if i use a 6cyl torque converter?
It's hard to find the btr trans here and when you do some people think it's made of gold.

Go to an Auto specialist and have it rebuilt. Mine was built for 800HP and cost 2500. A stock rebuild shouldn't be anywhere near that kind of coin.
Pity you are in NZ, as mine will be leaving me soon for a manual.
