When pulling the gearbox off the motor, i noticed that the fork itself was not attached to the bellhousing just floating around, is it meant to be attached or not?? Even a photo or 2 would be a big help.

Cheers, Justin

Should be attached on the drivers side with a pin of sorts.

I thought they had a bolt and a sacrificial plate which held the fork in. When you change the clutch you should get a new plate in the kit. At least thats what they had in ef-el.

If you can just poke it back in, then something is wrong. Worn fork or shoulder bolt, or both, and should be replaced, as well as the little wear pivot plate.

Yeah only got the pressure plate, clutch plate and spigot bearing in my kit. There was no sign of a bolt or plate being in there when I pulled it apart! Will try and find a plate to suit so I can move forward with the re-fitment.

Ford or a gearbox place can supply the bolt & plate. Mine were not worn much when i last did the clutch, and being tight on money i didn't replace them. 3mths down the track, i wish i had, as i don't get the feel i should from the clutch peddle, meaning the fork isn't pivoting quite the way it should. It's not bad, like in one of my Xr8's i picked up, which i know the bolt & plate will be shagged in, meaning i have to pull the gearbox out to just fix that! What a pita!

I might buy 2 bolts & plates when I'm at ford next.

Also, how is the rubber mounted cable pull part on the fork? Is it solid or does it move back & forth in the rubber? If it moves other than the rubber flexing a bit, replace the fork before it fails on you on the side of the road.

Cheers

Called into Ford today, they said the sacrificial plate is obsolete and the bolt is $30. I can reuse the bolt, but was wondering seeing that the plate is sacraficial and probably just mild steel, why it cant just be made up of some 25x3mm flat bar. The plate measures 25x14.5x3mm with a 6mm hole.
Thoughts.

I found that out too the other day when i inquired. I don't see why not, and next time i have my gearbox out i will be doing just that, making up the plate from some mild steel flat bar.

Cheers

Really? What's the part number? I was speaking with ford on Monday - obsolete part, unavailable is what the computer system said.

Cheers
