Hey guys, I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to cars but bear with me... I've just purchased a BA XR8, and took it to get it serviced. It has the T5 gearbox. When the mechanic tryed to replace the clutch fluid, he snapped of the plug that goes into the gearbox and the clutch. Now i'm not sure what that plug is called. Can someone advise of this and apparently i can't get the bolt itself but i have to get the whole set which is $500+.

Thank for your time

Surely a competent mechanic can 'find another way'?

It's not just the bleed nipple is it?

yeah thats all it is. but he said he can't get the part.... blah blah blah.... and its gonna cost me to take the gearbox out and get it completely out. we going to see if someone can actually reathread it. i am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if he is to blame or its just one of those things that happen.

yeah well thats what you'd think. he said that he didn't use too much force on it and that it was weak anyway. so i'm kind of confused atm

He broke it, he fixes it...simple as that. I cant see what would be worth $500 though...a broken bolt aint worth that and besides head bolts, there aint $500 worth of bolts, clips and fasteners in the entire car...

And what`s clutch oil...?

Sorry, just read the thread again. so he was replacing the clutch FLUID...he broke the bleeder off probably. Ive undone bleeders on brakes, clutches, cooling systems...and only once broke one. I just drilled it out and tapped the thread and put a suitable one back in...cost 75c from Repco...so I coulda got out of it for 40c elsewhere...

As I said, he broke it, he fixes it...can`t put it on you, he saw the part and handled the part and now the part is unserviceable...his problem.

Dont pay for jack s**t man.
He broke the bloody thing.
Correct me if im wrong but i doubt a bleeding nipple or a whole new slave cylinder costs $500.00?

That mechanic sounds about as useful as a 3 legged cammel on crack

yeah well drama over. we took the old part to a friend of ours. we drilled a hole in both of the sides, threaded a short pipe and screwed both broken parts to it and that worked. still chared me 250 bucks for the removal of the gearbox
