Im just looking into airbags atm and have talked to a couple suppliers. But how do they compare to coilovers in handling performance?

coil overs will KILL airbags when it comes to handling.
bags will cost you around $4k if not more also.

The only advantage air bags have is they go up and down, but for handling it's coil overs all the way

Agreed. if you want the car to handle on twisty stuff, go coilovers.

If you want to be able to dump your car, and have a smooth ride in general driving, go bags.

Technically, airbags are pretty much like a coil spring. They have little friction, can be made to have a linear or progressive rate, etc. Airbags have the advantage of more easily adjustable height, with a controller at the flick of a switch your car can be as good over speed bumps as on the track.

But in the real world it tends to be difficult to get even basic info on airbags. You want to know whether they are linear or progressive rate, and you definitely need to know the actual rate. I've never been able to find this on the internet. They tend to be soft, with lesser availability, and much more expensive than coils.

Then you need to fit shocks in another location, either ones that happen to have suitable damping for the vehicle and lever ratio, or adjustable ones that can do what is required. Read: expensive, and hard to obtain.
