Hey Guys, How many of you have experienced cracking in these brakes yourself or is it just a myth?

it happens... seen it on my mates celica... not pretty...

it isually happens with breaking hard with cold brakes... i think? can someone confirm?

problem occurs because of major temp flactuation.

for example, your doing 100 and come to a town, 80 then 60 zones. then in to 50 zones and traffic lights. in five mintues from bugger all to screeming hot, but the holes are venting a lot of heat. when you slow to a dead stop, and the pads are resting on the disc, the pads are still burning hot and the disc heats and warps in one section. thats just one issue.

coming straight from a town drive to open road (100) the disc will cool very quick and the cone and studs will still retain heat.

others are things like having open style mags, if it gets wet the water evaporates really quick and can make one side of the disc contract very quick

i HAVE cracked a set of dba GOLDS, havnt had anytrouble with my slotteds except for the wear :)

AND i noticed SFA differance between slotted and slott+drill

i think its just because the rotor keeps cheese grating the pads. all the holes do is keep the rotor cooler and the slots reduce surface area so more stress is put on the rotor and pad.

i really dont think they make a HEAP of difference, just a bit

never had trouble with mine .... (slotted and drilled)... -front AND back... and not through a lack of km either!... i whore km's faster than a taxi driver!... :lol:

to be honist i think its got something to do with how the brakes are run in first, and how they are first used when the car is first used when its started. (how quick they heat up after start)

i just put DBA slotted only on because my sloted and x drilled were cracking between holes,ill get a pic up later to show you.

I had DBA slotteds on my EL, loved 'em.

Got Brembo's slotted and cross drilled on the GT-P. I believe Brembo cast the holes in, they aren't drilled. So don't suffer from cracking. I've certainly given mine hell.

you'll find cast holes will be less prone to cracking because there is no stress or vibration to cause the metal to fatigue or develop microcracking

i don't believe mine are cracked (cross drilled/slotted) but i might go have a look later on.

mine were on my car when i bought it, ince then they have been machined twice, but nexty time they warp ill be replacing them with just slotted's. they havnt cracked and i give my car a fair caining

i had the drilled and slotted ones they stopped well but
mine had cracked between the holes as well...
i think the slotted ones would be the go....
