Gday guys, Today the brake pedal went rock hard in my wifes EL Fairmont 4.0L.... i'm assuming this means a dead booster? I checked the hose & valve and its not those... its not even holding any pressure.

Now my next question.... which boosters are compatible with it? I have one from an EB, can I use that?

When you start your car, with your foot on the brake pedal, it should sink a little bit when you start, pretty sure all E series boosters were same, EB should fit, check the bolt pattern.

It doesnt sink at all.... car running or not. When I remove the valve from the booster it doesnt release any air at all which tells me it isnt working.
Its like driving with a soccer ball under the brake pedal.

EF/EL are plastic, they split sometimes, its not unheard of.
EB one won't fit, 4 bolt vs EF/EL 2 bolt.
Unless you feel like drilling firewall and pedal box
You can use a booster off any model EF/EL/NF/NL, I6 or V8.

For the EL (since you have the plastic shell), you can use the booster off a series 1 AU. Same booster. It changes to the metal one for the series 2 AU.
