hi
just a curious question is there any difference in the diamiter in a 3.9 and 40l clutch plate and how many kms do you get out of your clutch??

just before i bought my ea 2 years ago the clutch was changed since then ive done 20.000kms. and when i changed the engine last year the clutch seemed ok..
and now its pretty much had the d**k lol..
the car drives but after about 20 mins driving when the car is nice and warm the clutch will slip in 3rd and 4th if you accelerate and will slurr on gear change..

im a bit p****d of about it . :x
the car does get a bit of a thrashing but nothing over the top..
so tomorrow i will be changing the clutch and
hopefully this one will last longer then the last one..

also i went to get a clutch today and i was told that 3.2 and 3.9l has a 254mm clutch plate and the 4.0l has a 268mm clutch..
as mine was originally a 3.9 i assume its got the std clutch .

ive never come across this before i know ea's have got 3 bolt pressure plate like mine and eb on has a 6 bolt pressure plate..
so will the 4.0l clutch still fit the 3.9 flywheel????

I have a 4.0lt clutch in my EA, I just drilled & tapped 3 more holes in the flywheel. Works good, its an RPM clutch from Ci.

Yea thats what i was thinking of doing ..
so im assuming that the clutch plate on the 3.2 and 3.9 are a smaller diamiter but the flywheel/pressure plate is the same size as 4.0l?
if thats right i can just bolt a 4.0l clutch and pressure plate onto the ea flywheel using the 3 existing bolts and just drill and tap the other 3 holes?

IIRC 268mm is the V8 size.
EA/EBI: 241mm
EBII on: 254mm

pressure plates are different size also, to match driven plate diameter.

A few on this site have done that, so it will work.

I'm running a 3 bolt flywheel and a heavy duty EA/EBI valeo clutch plate behind my EL, no probs as yet (15 000km), although after driving the XH with it's std 6 bolt setup, jumping into the EL I nearly stall it as the pedal is heavier, but not uncomfortably so.

my clutch has been in the car since 2004, done about 25,000km, and is showing signs of wear, ie. grabbing when the wheels spin, hard gear changes etc etc.

cool thanks for that 8-)

its just a bit of a pain in the a** when your car has mods and parts from each model and when you go to buy a clutch and not sure what one it has untill you pull it back apart and find out the clutch you got is different

because the only things that are original ea is the body and gearbox. the rest
of the car is eb ed ef el and au..
