basically i what to know if the diff ratios in the falcons changed between the different models (EA,EB,ED) or if you can put EL or EF diff centres in a EA diff housing. one other thing does a EA manual have a different diff ratio to a auto one and what are the ratios.

most GLI-futuras etc have a 3.08 single spinner, wagons/fairmont/fairlane/LTD got 3.27 single spinner/LSD (ghia or higher)
V8s got 3.27 LSD????
XR6 got 3.45 LSD

EA's use a 25 spline axle, EB up use 28 spline, you cant just swap a later model centre into an EA diff (maybe with axles but not sure)

and only 3.08 diff gears fit into 3.08 housings

im sure someones gonna tell me ive missed something, but thats a rough overview of the diffs used

I was quoted $1500 to change from a single spinner to an LSD but that was with all new parts. Bugger that!!!

yeh, you should just be able to chuck in an LSD centre into your diff, no probs.

For sale you say. Hmmm. Where abouts in Sydney are you and how much? And anyone know if this centre will go straight into the ED gli diff housing? Or do I need a different housing?

So does an EBII 4.0l fairmont have 3.27 gears? and an EBGL have 3.08 gears?

If so, I should swap the dif from my dead fairmont to my GL.

Can any one confirm this?

Thanks
BenJ

Some people will say its better to get a whole new diff. I converted mine in my EL though. I bought an LSD centre off a member on here, put new bearings on the centre just to be safe. Spend about 4 hrs having a couple of beers and put in the new centre. Then Bob's ur Aunty, two black marks everywhere, not one!

The process is fairly simple, just takes some time
1. Drain diff oil
2. Remove diff back plate
3. Remove both axles
4. Undo bearing caps, and remove old centre taking not of the shims
5. Remove crown wheel from old centre, and put on new centre (noting left hand thread)
6. Put new centre in, and insert shims in the same way they come out
7. Install bearing caps
8. Install Axles
8. Install backing plate
9. Fill with diff oil
10. Drive carefully for 500km at least to let it all bed in, then enjoy :)

I messed up step 10.. mistook 500km for 500m ;)
