has any body else done this mod.... i just finished it and it worked ok except need bigger springs i have toiletdore rears in the front, worked ok on ef but au is heavier so i cant do any u-turns tyres hit on gaurds even though they are rolled.... drives heaps better... i converted it because the e-series have the boge turbos, they seem to be the shortest shocks...has anyone else used any other springs on e-series fronts? i think e-series low kings would work on the au as lower than ssl au.... any ideas?

That all sounds pretty dodgy to me...... safety?
Surely there are logical reasons why all the E Series gear
is categorised differently to the AU/BA...??

front springs on au ba and bf are smaller at bottom then top..... e series are same size all the way up..... rears on irs au is same as nothing.... ba bf has normal spring au rear irs is very similar to front of au just smaller.... i ordered eb low v8 srings to fit to the e series shocks today maybe it will be close..i could be able to turn corners by tomorrow ! still drives a lot better... au lows in kings are super low for ba bf so i guess the same idea applies a low e series will be a super low au spring (its a weight thing)

why don't you just buy the correct springs/shocks for your vehicle for the height you want?

there really are none i have got all the measurements for the differents brands and au on really has nothing.....i had kings ssl in the front with ultima shocks....crap! with 20 s looks like a 4wd.... i fitted the e series v8 kings super lows and its a new car....boge turbos just fit you have to push the spring down to do the shock up..... its one inch to high now....feels good to turn corners...what springs and shocks are most common? what does every one else do i see lots of ba and au s low in the back high in the front

well i have had the e series shocks and v8 springs in for a few days and they have settled to the same height as the ssl and ultima au combo.. the front is alot stiffer and less bouncy...its one inch to high will change that soon..... the boge turbo shock has changed the car it only has a slight bump and sits firm the heavier v8 spring helps aswell..... i wonder what the tappered spring on au to bf falcon does?.... i wonder if fg is tappered or not ? having 4 different set ups in a week i have to say the au is a lot less undecided with the e series set up..... any ideas

How low do you want it?

If you want it ridicuously low you will need to get suspension mounts modified (and signed off on by an engineer if you want insurance/legality....ouch) or get airbags (again, ouch). Once this happens though you are likely to get major turning circle impedence on the front wheels with the guard (hence setups where tyre runs much inside the guard use bags).

I have used superlow front/ultralow rear setup in EL's before and I can tell you it sat very close to even (back tyre tucked by about 5-10mm, front not quite tucking but still low as)....as this was, it was quite impracticle to drive as getting in and out of anywhere was painful (and had an intercooler that only just sat inside stock front bumper so had to be very careful) plus ride was very harsh and exhaust could not be tucked up enough without imposing heat issues on the floor lol....plus pretty much shouted to police to come rape me with defects.

There are at least some differences in the springs, for example the EL rear springs are 8% softer than earlier models. I also reckon the EL and maybe EF are higher than earlier models. Also, the AU1 is higher than earlier e-series, and the AU2 is back down again.

I saw something in the opening post about using toiletdore rear shocks in the front. Eh?

no springs....i used vs toiletdore rears.... just happen to be the same diametre worked ok on ea and ef but were to low on au.... the e series boge shock and e series v8 super lows have worked a treat the suspension is nice and firm got rid of the little shudder it had with the ssl kings...but it ended up exactly the same ride height as au ssl... just firmer.

i do understand what you mean the e series also looks a lot lower. My ef looked a lot lower than the au and even the way it is the au still has 80 mil clearence under it the ef would get stuck on everything...the ef however always had muffler claerence problems the au does not..the ef also had the tail shaft cutting into the floor the au has IRS....i think i went to low with the ef and the au at the moment looks just right. in your falcon did you remove the middle rear bump stop on my ef even with ssl kings it sat on the bump stop

Yeah, I was smoking crack last night (metaphor for not thinking after working 14.5hours). It would be below legal height anyway so no point in getting one lol (as you would only do it to retain some level of travel for very, very low set ups). I have seen it done on a few customs/show cars but generally not those driven on the street, except for a guy's 'lolux' which he did himself and was just plain dodgey (really, really needs to learn to weld).

With my boge shortened shocks I had a bit of travel, albeit not much on the rears with ultralows....wasn't quite on bump stops though.

I didn't have a problem with the tailshaft as I used the xr upper control arms which changed the angle of the diff. Yep, muffler was my main concern as it was a fairly large unit as I was running 3in system.
