i just bought an ed fairmont on the weekend, and noticed the steering shaft through the firewall has collapsed.
it's the bearing/bush that runs between the shaft and firewall that has failed.
what is involved in replacing this, and what is the going price for the part/s?

Nope.. no way. Not without alot of pain, switching and swapping, oh and of course you'd be stuck with an EF/EL combo and wheel (incl airbag). :)

We encountered this when putting a full EL interior into an EB :)

i got a new shaft, i just had to swap my barrel over by getting a punch and hitting the corner of the round studs.
