EF 1 had a dipstick EF2 up until 3/96 (there were a few after this time)and they brought it back in for the later EL's. The reason given to the dealership mechanics was that customers were complaining that the gearbox needed to be replaced because the fluid was turning dark. This was the offial word from FOMOCO. I was working for Bryan burt ford in Brisbane as a mechanic at this time.
