What could be causing the abs light to stay on?

any ideas? just to confirm this is the "check A.B.S" light on the dash, it stays on all the time. The brakes still feel fine though, im not driving the car at the moment but on the weekend i want to sort this check abs warning out and was looking for some things i could check.

Someone fitted non abs front brakes with no tone wheel?
Easy to check visually.
Could be faulty wheel speed sensor, maybe melted plug, I had one melt on my XR8.

i'm also having troubles with my 'check abs' light on dash. replaced rotors and brake pads (due to worn disc on drivers side) but light still on. re-adjusted everything, (brakes, bearings, abs sensors) and light still on. tried diagnostic, light flashes, but no code. can anyone help?
my cars a 12/96 fairmont ghia. i'm losing patience already.
