Will an EL gearbox work in my EA with a 4speed electronic??

yep,,i have an el trans in my ea and it just bolted straight in no problems.

yeah buuuttt... i plugged my na fairlane ecu into the el n the engine ran fine at idle no coughin n pingin... then when i put it in gear its like it just stayed in D or 3rd n puttin it in 1 or 2 on the manual didnt do anythin.. n it wouldnt rev ova 2000.. pluuuusss.. the power economy switch didnt light up the jewel on the dash.. so my guess was that my ecu coulnd control the el gearbox....

an ea na ecu will not run in an el,,they are different as the ea na ecu does not control the transmission.
the ea to eb 1 had seperate controlers for the transmisisions. eb 2 and above i think have combined controlers for the engine and transmission.

the series 2 and some series 1 ea's have the 4 speed electronic boxes but have a serperate transmission control module {tcm} and the {ecu} electronic control unit controls the engine only.
the later e series have a combined engine/transmission controler in the ecu. thus why an early model ecu will not run a later model vehicle and vis versa,with out major wireing mods. i think it was ea series 2 to somewhere in the eb series that had the two controlers,from late eb on they had the combined ECU's,i think. someone will expand on this. hope that explains it a bit better.

yeah cool cool... where is the tcm located on the early falcons..?? so how do u hav an el e-box running in ur ea..??

EBII still had a separate ECU for the box. I think the EF was the first to have a combined ECU for engine & box.
All 4sp auto's in the falcs are electronic.

Wrong. EB2 had the combined ecu in the sixes. All V8s have a separate auto ecu.
While you can't run a later model car with the EA ECU you can put a later model auto box in an EA an it will work fine as the separate auto ecu will runit. BenJ
