my cousins EL GHIA steering is nice and light and i was wondering if its possible to make the steering in an ED the same...its more for my girlfriends benefit but i wouldnt mind it being a bit lighter... what needs to be done to make it lighter?? is it the rack or pump or both and the speed sensitive steering in the ECU

All EL Ghias, NL Fairlanes and DL LTD's have Speed Sensitive Power steering (SSPS) 8-) . The only exception to this was the NL FBT, as tickford disabled it to keep a 'sporty feel' in the steering.

You would need to do a lot to get it into any other car, from what I understand. From What I can see on here (which was not too much - bloody search function  ) you would need to change the rack to one with the SSPS solenoid, which makes the steering lighter at lower speeds. You would also need to run the associated wiring, and a suitable ECU (so you would be looking for one from an EL Ghia, NL or DL). Apart from that, I am not too sure, as there appears to be nobody on FM that has done the conversion.

I know that when I put an XR6 (Manual) ECU in my Ghia I lost my SSPS, so you would definately need the ECU.

Prolly easier to buy a car that already has it

Hope this helps
