federal FD1 are utter crap, they wear very quickly ive found

Personal preference on tyres, but I would rather fork out $190 each tyre every year for my steer tyres. A good alignment will see the softest of tyres last. I did 15000k's on a set of Khumo V70A semi slicks from 50%.

I don't drive much anymore, maybe twice a week when I need to buy stuff that won't fit on my bike, so if the tyre is decent enough for a cheap price, I am happy to grab them. By the way 67RCE, I just got a quote for Khumo KU36 from Kmart Auto (...closest tyre dealer) and they charged $239 a tyre (includes fitting, balance, tyre disposal and some lifetime wheel balance crap). Not too bad, but pricier than the Dunlop SP3000As. Another private place sold them for $260 fitted/balanced

Might have to pop in and see how much Maxxis are, supposedly good tyres too...forgot to ask them about them. Right now I feel like going with Falken ZE912, Federals FD2s (if they are well priced) or the Firestones from Bridgestone. If money falls on my lap, I'll probably get Khumos KU36s. If anyone has anymore suggestions before Saturday, that would be great. Hoping to book it in and get it done on Saturday. Cheers

In the last few weeks I've had a set 912's fitted, they were $180 a corner + fitting. Good tyre, quiet, progressive grip as well, you can feel yourself pushing into understeer compared with something like the Goodyear F1 GSD3's that held, held, held then BANG welcome to understeer by the bucket load. Hindsight, I should have got the FK452's! My car is loud as it is, The 452's are a sportier tyre, by only a little bit, But my mate has the 452's fitted to his FG F6, and he experiences zero tyre noise. Your gonna get what you pay for, I went 235/40/18's Previously had 245's the carcass on the Goodyears was too large, took the grease nipples out, banged guards and so on. the falken 235 presents narrower by a significant margin. The F1's had larger shoulders that pumped up the appearance of them.
I find yokohamas too soft for road use, you will find the KU36's too soft as well for road use, I think the tread wear is somewhere round 180, I know they are a silica tyre, but thats still soft. I'd expect 45000 out of them.

What's the actuall real world kms u all getting out of the tyres u are recommending???
Im using Kuhmo KU31's and last time i checked i done 25,000kms and still had a couple mm on the indicators left..........

My 36's are 3 years old, have done numerous skidpan days, 2x Powercruise, multiple drift sessions, been on 3 cars and I myself have done 7000k's on them and have about 0.5mm to the Tread wear indicator.

I ended up going with the Falken ZE912s. I have done only 50km on them so far. From what I have found so far, they are a bit quieter than the SP3000A. Comparing new to new, sorry I can't say, since it's been 2 or 3 years since I bought the SPs new so my memories have faded, however when I drove home from the freeway, they seemed smooth and quiet. Not much tram lining on grooves as the SPs that's for sure and it has plenty of grip in the dry, tried hard braking and slightly over excited cornering and it held pretty well, probably better than SPs. Definitely plenty of grip for every day driving. Tyres were tested in familiar roads, so comparing them made it much easier. Also found that the steering was much lighter during parking/slow corners, which I found odd considering tyre pressure is the same as the SPs before. At first I thought it was the release agent still on the new tyres, but even after a 50km drive, steering was still easy.
Overall, I give these tyres to be quiet good. Bang for buck in comparison to the Dunlop SP3000A. I paid $170 per tyre to be fitted/balanced, which isn't too bad considering the last time I bought Dunlop SP3000A, it cost me $1100 for a set. I would say I got about 25000km out of my front tyres (got lazy and didn't rotate). The rears still have 60% tread or so. I would imagine I'd get another 30000km out of the rears quiet easily if not rotated, this is for Dunlop SP3000A, with 36psi. With new fronts, I am hoping to get brand new tyres all round after 30000km to even it out.
