HI guys i have an EF XR6 it has currently been goinginto limp home mode so i took it to a tranny joint. he told me a pressure solenoid and gear selector switch were comming up with error codes. so he changed the gear selector switch and didnt dot he other one because he said it might be setting it off. my mate drove it aroundall day on a hot day and it was fine. picked me up from uni, ran beautifully, three quarters of the way home gay limp mode again. the strange thing is there is no inconsistencies in shifting strength feels spot on all the time. What the hell do i do? i sent it back for what all mechanics love to call extensive testing. would a solenoid that appears to be working just fine be sending an error code? he even suggested the idea of a glitchy ECU, is this possible? any help and ideas on pricing would be greatly appreciated.

could quite possibly be the ecu.......

but 1st check all the electrical connections on the box, pull them apart, and clean them (not with water of course). don't worry about the speedo sender though.

does the econ light on the dash flash at all???

Check the electrical connection to the gearbox in the engine bay - I removed mine, and WD-40'd it. Cleans up the contacts a little, settled the beast.

Well connectors are getting done as we speak with full service. as for the econ light it has come on only a hand full of times since the 2 years ive owned the car. would it be worth while cleaning the connectors on the ECU side of things??? thanks for your help guys

a flashing econ light just indicates a general gearbox fault, nothing specific other that there is a gearbox problem.

this is what i'm told, i could be wrong...

lets hope it's all good. i've cleaned my connectors just to be on the safe side after my extention housing seal+bush went and sprayed fluid all over the underside of the car, the connectors were quite filthy.

maybe this should become a yearly maintenance item?

a flashing ECON lght usually indicates the trans is overheating.

the econ light doesnt even come on for me let alone flash. so i suppose it rules that one out. would anythig other than trans related issues trigger LHM mode?

all i can think of at the moment is an ECU problem.... or something making the trans think somethings wrong.

id say if u havent already, go around and clean every terminal and plug around the box and wires that come off it with contact cleaner.

did u get a new ECU or trans recently?
