hi, im in the process of turboing my fairmont ef i6...
its currently running a btr 4speed..
i want to convert it to manual before the turbo goes in.. so doing that i want a gearbox which can handle boost and say 200rwkw..
i no t5 isnt good with boost so my question is what alternative gearboxes do i have???
i want a manual stronger then a t5 which isnt gonna cost me a arm and a leg to buy and install..
should i keep looking? or am i better off sticking off with the btr???

thanks

If your only want 200rwkw the t5 will take it. Just don't do lots of big clutch dumps or 3rd gear drifting :) 3rd is the weak link.

an eseries t5 is already at its capacity after a couple n/a mods, so i wouldnt trust it to hold up when your forcing double the power @ wheels over stock.

yes if you drive like a granny and look after the gearbox, then it will last for years, but with a turbo i dont think thats gonna happen :)

Mines going ok on more than 200rwkw :)

And i give it to it, but im not stupid to it either. Its pretty much the consensus that any more than 200 and its bye bye third gear as the torque spreads the caseing and spins tips off the teeth.

A T5 can handle 300rwkw with a roller bearing conversion, pm BI6TIM for info, he has a T5 with 405rwhp

Mine's been turboed for around 3 years, and has taken 3 p platers and myself during that time. Granted it's only doing roughly 200rkww, but I've done nothing but clutch dumps and flat shifts for the last 12 months, and it's still alive.

looking into a TKO was the first thing i did but im not prepared to pay more for a gearbox then i am on the turbo set up alone. i no too many people that have gone through t5 and clutches with a na setup alone. i want it to be a reliable street car which i can take to the track a few times. anyone no the limit of a btr. my one has a shiftkit and a tranny cooler and runs perfect..
at the moment my brain is telling me its the way to go but my heart is on a manual.
will give a few more places a call to see whats around..
also is it possible to rebuild t5's??? most people i have asked told me boost will kill a t5 regardless

if your worried about a T5, get on boostedfalcon.net and have a look at Rolling build thread, and do a T56 conversion, DIY for $2.5k
