Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the outer bearing for drum brakes needs to be forced onto the spindle?
I've tried to put it all back together but it doesn't seem that it's on far enough.
Wondering if tapping it all with a mallet would hurt?

Cheers

Ef front brakes are disc. Put the inner/outer wheel bearings into the disc and then drop the lot onto the axles. Tighening up the bearing bolt to 30nm while spinning the hub will reseat them but it shouldn't be that hard to have it sit almost perfect right away. Check you have put the bearings in right

No drum brakes on the EF as far as I know :?

Either way, the inner bearing can be put on first and lightly tapped all the way in with a drift (making sure the bearing is seated right, not on an angle) Then slide the disc hub on, put outer smaller bearing on, washer and then the nut. Tighten to 30Nm as 79raven mentioned while spinning the hub, back off half a turn and finger tighten as much as you can. Fit nut retaining thing and put split pin in.

Make sure the seal in the disc hub was put in correctly (if replaced) and that the bearings are all greased packed well.

I keep forgetting if it's an EL or an EF and I have to check under the hood to be certain sometimes, and yeah they're probably called discs

Thanks for the replies.. Turns out I only needed to lift the whole assembly up slightly to get it all to slide back into place. This is only my 2nd attempt at fix/repair anything related to my car and the first time was replacing the front indicators. (not really rocket science)
I had supervision, but pretty much put the rotors and calipers back together myself.
Not bad for a stay at home mum!

Thanks to all the great folks on FordMods, which is where I got the majority of the info from.

Cheers :D
