How do I tell the condition of a pressure cover plate?

The fingers should all be in good nick, all level and none bent. check the surface of the pressure plate it should be smooth with no or little scoring.

Also no dishing or hot spots.

Check the plate for thinkness too. Get the spec from the manufacture.
