Is it possible toConvert 4 speed Auto to 3 speed auto in AU

yep will bolt up no mods required the early 4sp autos are basicilly the same as the later boxes just some small revisions within the box its self

Thanks mate -Do I use the early model converter and bellhousing or the AU ones and do the electrnics hook up same?

use all that comes with your replacement box chances are the fliud in your old converter will be contamanated with filings and stuff, and all the electrics will be the same, the only thing that will be diffrent is you will now have a dipstick

Im almost certian that it wont fit in there. The AU crossmember is different (4 bolt staggered as opposed to the 2 bolt design of the E series) and the cross member is mounted further back on the AU's. I know this as we had one hell of a time trying to fit an EF T5 to an AU, and it still isnt right. Manual's are worse as you have to cut the floor out to fit the earlier series shifter through the floor, and the stick hits on the dash. The bell housing on the E series box is also different, and you wont be able to use the lower half of the bellhousing bolts as they dont line up. I hope that this helps
