Cutting springs is a really bad way to lower your car. My mate was refused insurance because his springs were cut.

90% of people will tell you to just buy lowered springs, really cutting them is not the option to take.

I have heard of all sorts of problems including altered handling, loud banging noises and refused insurance from people who have at one stage cut their springs as i was thinking of doing this as a cheap way of lowering my EA i had.

Nah mate, don't even think about cutting springs, tis bad and pretty stupid. As howsie said, there will be heaps of people disapproving this and will suggest getting lowered springs. If you can't afford 320 bucks for springs, then just don't get them until you can. Insurance company won't cover cut springs and I think it is also illegal.

I would hate for you to drive an unroadworthy car which can be a threat to other drivers, when the springs pop out while you're being fully sick and hit an incoming family car filled with kids.

Just a scenario to think about.

Spring compressing isn't as bad, but still not recommended. The coils sit closer and in theory the coils could touch each other on some occasions causing major havoc while driving.

Just get some second hand lowered springs if you can't afford new ones. Either way the springs have to come out.

there are no stupid questions just stupid people.

I see alot of car shows etc cut springs etc but most are professionals and know where and what to cut...

as been said it is a silly and stupid act.. they don't sit properly etc... and yeah illegal and no insurance cover etc. and the fines etc concerning unroadworthy cars etc etc.
